Our Innovative Approach to ABA

At Cogleap, we’ve reimagined Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy to create a more nurturing, inclusive, and effective experience for neurodiverse children.

Our approach goes beyond traditional therapy models by combining proven ABA techniques with innovative technology and a deep understanding of neurodiversity.

Beginning your journey with us is simple:

01

Initial Contact

Book a free consultation to speak to a representative or get additional information.

02

Insurance Verification

Share your insurance information and recent diagnosis documentation that has been done by either a physician or psychologist. We’ll need this to check your eligibility with your insurance company.

03

Intake Process

Once your eligibility is confirmed, we’ll send you the necessary paperwork to complete, after which we’ll schedule a date and time for you to meet with our BCBA team.

Our model is built on a neuro affirming strength-based philosophy developed in collaboration with leading experts, including our co-founder, Harvard-trained psychiatrist Dr. Edward Hallowell. Rather than focusing solely on challenges, we celebrate and build upon your child’s unique strengths and abilities.

We embrace a naturalistic, Skills-Based Treatment (SBT) approach. This method emphasizes:

  • Creating safe, supportive environments

  • Building genuine connections

  • Developing practical, meaningful skills

  • Ensuring learning transfers to daily life

The Cogleap Difference: Where Science Meets Compassion

  • Our Board-Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) begin with a thorough evaluation using multiple assessment tools:

    • Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales

    • Parent/Caregiver interviews

    • Indirect observations using rating scales

    • Specialized direct assessments like VB-MAPP or AFLS

This multi-faceted approach helps us understand your child’s strengths, preferences, and areas for growth, allowing us to create truly personalized interventions.

  • Every child is unique, and their intervention plan should reflect that. We create individualized plans that:

    • Build on your child’s interests and strengths

    • Set meaningful, realistic, and achievable goals

    • Celebrate both small and significant victories

    • Adapt to your child’s pace and learning style

    • Focus on skills that enhance daily life

Our personalized plans are specifically designed to meet your child where they’re at, teaching them that learning can be both fun and meaningful.

  • Our data-driven approach ensures your child is making meaningful progress:

    • Regular progress assessments

    • Continuous program optimization according to progress made

    • Essential biannual comprehensive reviews/reassessments where parents are involved in providing insights on the previous 5-6 months

    • Collaborative goal-setting with families

    • Celebration of achievements and milestones, both small and big

This progress tracking is critical and allows BCBAs to ensure whether the interventions they’ve designed are effective—this also helps to ensure your child’s needs and goals are being met and that they are truly benefitting from ABA.

  • We believe in empowering parents as essential partners in their child’s journey, as this helps us ensure the ABA is effective and will ultimately lead to your child’s long-term success. Our parenting support includes:

    • Regular parent training sessions

    • Ongoing communication and updates with parents

    • Providing practical strategies for home implementation

    • Support for the entire family unit

    • Resources for continued learning

As a parent, your role, insights, and active involvement in your child’s journey, therapy, and progress are absolutely crucial.

After your appointment, our therapists and specialists will discuss the way forward!

Your feedback is invaluable to our therapists, as it provides insights into your child’s behavior, preferences, and challenges, helping us to further optimize and tailor intervention plans to evolve with your child’s growing needs.

Questions about ABA

  • Yes, it’s a federal and state insurance requirement for individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to have access to ABA therapy as a covered benefit. Typically co-sharing (co-pay, co-insurance, deductible, and out of pocket max all apply). If an individual does not have a diagnosis of ASD, insurance will mostly likely not cover it; however, we can still check insurance benefits to confirm this information.

  • It depends. The best thing to do is allow Cogleap to check your insurance benefits, including sending in proof of ASD diagnosis and your insurance carrier will let us know if an updated diagnosis is needed. Typically speaking a diagnosis made through psychological testing that is within the last 2 years is usually accepted.

  • Each case is individualized, so we can’t predict in advance how long ABA therapy will be. However, typically speaking ABA is multiple days a week (typically 3-5 days) for at least 2 hours a day. Authorizations are for 6 months at a time, and every 6 months a progress report is sent to the insurance company for re-authorization.

  • There are four components to ABA Therapy; initial treatment plan/functional behavior assessment (FBA), direct, supervision, and caregiver training. The initial treatment plant or FBA is conducted at the start of ABA therapy to determine skill deficits and the function of challenging behavior. From that information, the BCBA creates the treatment plan including hours for direct, supervision, and caregiver training. For direct a R/BT will work directly with your child targeting skill acquisition goals and teaching replacement behaviors to challenging behaviors. For supervision, a BCBA will overlap with the R/BT and/or work remotely to advance the child’s treatment plan and support the R/BT in delivering the treatment. For caregiver training, the caregiver(s) will meet with the BCBA either in-person or remotely about 1x a week for 1hr to review progress and receive training on the child’s treatment plan.
